An exciting new painting and drawing award dedicated to supporting emerging art talent has been launched this month.
The Griffin Art Prize 2012 is open to UK-based artists who have graduated since 2005 – and with a prize of a six month studio residency culminating in an individual exhibition in September 2013, it’s the ideal opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their talent.
Open for entries until 31st August 2012, a notable judging panel – made up of internationally renowned painter Ian Davenport; director of London’s CHARLIE SMITH gallery, Zavier Ellis; Art Foundation chair Jenny Lindén Urnes; and award winning journalist Deborah Orr – will select a shortlist of ten artists who’ll be invited to take part in a showcase exhibition at the Griffin Gallery, London, in November. The overall winner will be announced at a private view of the exhibition taking place on 7th November 2012.
Allia Rizvi, representing leading fine art materials brands Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Conté à Paris, which are supporting the launch of the Griffin Art Prize 2012, comments: ‘We have a long-term commitment to supporting new and emerging talent in painting and drawing, and this new award is a really positive development for supporting artists of the future.’
“The exhibition of shortlisted entries will be seen by collectors, curators and other art world professionals – so it’s a fantastic chance for artists to showcase their work. It’s easy to enter and offers an unrivalled development opportunity for the winning artist.”
Following the announcement of the winner of the Griffin Art Prize 2012 in November, the winning artist will commence their six month working residency in The Studio Building, London W.11, on the same floor Innovation and Development is based, giving the winning artist direct access to the technique and science behind fine art materials.
