Golcar Library is inviting the community to get involved in running their own library in the first village library consultation.
There will be a six week period of consultation at Golcar Library starting on Monday March 5 which will continue until Saturday April 14 when members of the public will be able to express their interest in being involved in the running of the library. For the first 3 weeks people will be able to fill in a survey on a touch screen. Throughout the full six week period there will be cards available for people to log their interest.
All expressions of interest will then be considered and more detailed discussions with interested parties will follow. The proposal is that Kirklees Council will provide guidance to interested community groups and individuals, including training, a regular supply of books, maintenance of public access computers and additional support to ensure the continuation of a high quality library service.
Kirklees Council Cabinet Member Cllr Shabir Pandor commented: “Kirklees Council want to ensure that we keep all our libraries open and in order to do this we need the support and enthusiasm of local communities. This consultation period provides individuals and community groups in the Golcar area with the opportunity to express their interest in running their library and delivering a valuable public service. All political parties are committed to making this work.”
Golcar Library is open as follows:
Monday: 2pm to 7.30pm
Tuesday: 10am to 12.30pm
Wednesday: 2pm to 7.30pm
Thursday: 10am to 12.30pm
Friday: 10am to 12.30pm, 2pm to 5pm
