On Wednesday 27 June One Big Event will take over Gateshead, celebrating a month to go to the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
One Big Event will bring together all 12 Local Authorities in the North East as cultural events take place in sporting venues, and sporting events take place in cultural venues, between the hours of 12.20 – 20.12.
Throughout the day activities will be taking place across Gateshead, giving local people the chance to come together, join in sport and celebrate the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
Activities are for all ages and range from dance, rowing, athletics, Tai Chi and creative movement, with most events free.
Gateshead Council cabinet member for culture, Cllr Linda Green, said: “One Big Event will provide a unique opportunity for people to try out different activities in unusual locations. Where else would you have the chance to experience athletics at the Angel of the North, or rowing at The Sage Gateshead! I’m expecting Gateshead residents to get involved and help bring London 2012 to the North East.”
Activities on the day include creative movement workshops at Gateshead Old Town Hall and Shipley Art Gallery, Tai Chi at Gateshead Central Library, Rowing at The Sage Gateshead, Athletics at the Angel of the North and Newcastle All Stars Steel Orchestra at Blaydon Leisure & Primary Care Centre.
