
Blackburn Youth Zone
Blackburn’s new state-of-the-art Youth Zone opened in March 2012. Blackburn Youth Zone provides positive activities and practical support, especially for those who are disadvantaged.
The three-storey building has three dedicated sports halls with a climbing wall, gym, dance and performing arts spaces and as well as visual arts facilities. Also included are a kitchen, games and social areas and an outdoor all-weather pitch on the roof. The centre is open seven nights a week, at weekends and during school holidays.
The Youth Zone employs around 50 staff, some full-time but most of them part-time working on a sessional basis with the young people.
The part time arts worker willwork with the arts coordinator, to plan, develop and deliver a high quality programme of activity that is exciting, safe, innovative, developmental and directly responds to the diverse needs, concerns and interests of the Youth Zone’s members.
They are looking for people with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in one or more of the following fields:-
- Visual arts/arts and crafts – sketching, painting, installation work, making, graffiti
- Performing arts – drama, dance, spoken word
- Digial media production – film making, music production, graphic design
The role pays £9.50 per hour (minimum of 6 hours per week)
