Southwark Arts Forum, a leading arts charity in South London, creates a day out for Londoners and opportunities for artists.
The Riverside Summer Fair is a daytime festival on the 28 July, Hays Galleria, featuring creative talent from South London. It will have artists selling a varied selection of art and craft, as well as feature great local food traders, live musicians and performances throughout the day.
The Riverside Summer Fair will be held in Hay’s Galleria on opening weekend of the Olympics Saturday 28th July 2012 from 12noon to 5pm.
Bridget Edwards, Southwark Arts Forum Director says: “It’s a great chance for the general public to experience the arts, to engage with artists, musicians, and see art outside of the context of a gallery.”
Arts and Craft traders will include: Rebecca Chitty, who makes Olympic themed kitchen-ware, Trierra Mestiza who play Mexican Folk songs with giant puppetry dances, John Whitfield who takes haunting photographs of abandoned wrecks by the shore, Deborah Hayman a cutting- edge jeweller and the “What Art Does” a dialogical art piece, that examines the impact of art on society, to which members of the public are invited to give their opinion. Southwark Arts Forum is delighted to be working with CBRE, the property managers of Hay’s Galleria to produce the Riverside Summer Fair.
Hay’s Galleria Spokesperson says: “We are immensely proud to be hosting the Southwark Arts Forum’s Summer Fair again and it is very important for us to support the arts and local artists in this way. It promises to be a great day out for all and what better way to start off the Olympic Games in London!”
Alex Ressel Southwark Arts Forum Arts Producer says: “Great artists don’t starve in garrets, they reflect and engage society, and we are dedicated to supporting these creative pioneers.”
“This is a chance for the public to buy great art at affordable rates, without art galleries, fairs, or dealers’ commissions increasing the price. Purchasing work straight from the artist can also give you an insight into their creative process.”
