‘Can’t stop Me Shining’ – a digital platform for a human voice

Nathan CampbellNathan Campbell, a twenty seven year old learning-disabled artist in Telford, West Midlands, always knew he was a ‘shiner’.

His granddad, who recently passed away, was the one person who had real faith in him. Nathan used his artistic abilities and a digital platform to express his pain and speak about his situation in a society where he felt his voice wasn’t heard.

Using a digital recorder Nathan recorded all his creative moments – whether it be in the form of song or poem – to produce a short, inspirational film with writer and development worker Kevin Hodgetts and sound artist Isabel Jones, both of Salamanda Tandem, titled ‘Can’t Stop Me Shining.’

Nathan Campbell says: “Art helps you to keep shining. It helps you hang onto your colours. This is the truth I wanted to say.”
